How to apply for Chinese government Scholarships, Every Year Chinese Scholarship council (CSC) affiliated universities grant scholarship to international students including Pakistani students for the program of masters and PhD.
When CSC scholarships are announced?
Most of universities announce their scholarships from the month of January, but some universities announce from November, the deadline of applications is mostly till march and mid of April.
How to Apply?
For CSC scholarships there is online application portal, which is opened from October-November and remain opened till may-June.

How to find best Universities?
Before proceeding to application process, most important is to find a good university to apply; good university should fulfill the criteria in sense of Research published by University/ respective department/Group. Universities with Project “211” and “985”are considered good universities, as they have sufficient amount of funding and well reputed in research. On the screen you can see tabs of province, city. You can search university in the province and city of your choice.

How to find a program of your interest?
In most of universities Masters and PhD programs offered in Chinese language, so before going to apply in selected university, you must find your program in English language. Follow the link.

On the screen you can see program listing e.g: Doctoral, Masters, Bachelor, Associate, Non Degree, select program of your choice, then select language of instruction such as English and write program of your choice, and click the search button. Note: please don’t press enter button while searching; click on the search button, if you press enter you will not get search results.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health.
- Education background and age limit:
- Applicants for undergraduate program must have senior high school diploma with good academic performance and be under the age of 25.
- Applicants for master’s degree program must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
- Applicants for doctoral degree program must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
- Applicants for Chinese language training program must have senior high school diploma and be under the age of 35.Chinese language is the only subject available. – Applicants for general scholar program must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study and be under the age of 45. All subjects including Chinese language are available.
- Applicants for senior scholar program must have master’s degree or above, or hold academic titles of associate professor or above, and be under the age of 50.
- In some cases eligibility criteria differ for language proficiency, some universities require just English proficiency certificate issued form last attended university and some require IELTS. (Check university website for Detail).
Application Procedure
- To apply for Chinese government scholarships, you need to apply online on csc web portal already given above.
- To apply online you must have your email address. First you need to make account on online application portal. If you want to apply for more than one university you need to make separate account for each university.
- By using single email address you can make more than one account, but your user name must be different.
Important steps in online application form
Agency code
Agency code is code for university or embassy, you can find agency codes in the list attached with the folder.
Education background
Only write highest degree, no need to write all your qualifications like inter/Fsc and metric/SSC etc. IF you are applying to university directly then no need to write second and third university. (for CSC scholarships Pakistani embassy do not accept applications, so you must send applications directly to university).
If you want to apply more than one university make separate account and in each account write that university as your first choice.
Duration of the study
Programs taught in Chinese; Masters Program may be of 2 or 3 years in Chinese as well as in English, and Phd program is basically for 3 years but if taught language is Chinese then it is of 4 years. Write date according to the date given by respective university.
Application Material
Academic documents
For PhD, students need to provide photocopies of their masters and bachelor degree and transcripts of both bachelor and masters.
For Masters, students need to provide bachelor degree and transcripts of bachelors. Students who are waiting for their results can also apply, if they hope to get their degrees till June, they can ask university to issue them Hope/ Provisional certificate and on the basis of that certificate they can apply.
Get attested your academic documents from Notary public officer in court; some seniors have the view that students can also attest their documents from professor/Associate/ assistant professor.
Note: No need to attach Inter and Metric mark sheets and pass certificates
Foreign physical examination form
Form is attached with the folder. Go to any government hospital, get required tests; some tests are mentioned in form, but I suggest tests like X-ray, VDRL, CT scan, AIDS, hepatitis etc. get attested form from any physician. Doctor must attest form and picture on front side.
Note: No need to get tests from expensive hospital. Government hospital is OK.
Recommendation letters
Students required to attach two recommendation letters from two different professors/Associate professors of their last attended university/Institute, if there are no full professors or associate professors assistant professor can also issue a recommendation letter. Students must attach original letters not photocopy or color copy.
Note: If you want to apply for more than one university then issue separate set of recommendation letters from professors.
Research Proposal/ Study Plan
Students should submit Research proposal/ Plan for (PhD/MS) and study Plan for (MS/BS), study plan should not be less than 800 words, average words are 1000-1200.Research proposal contents are; student research background(if any), future research plan, research methodology, expected results, applications and references. While study plan is simple including student’s introduction, educational background, motives for further higher education, future research intentions. Use simple language, avoid too many colorful stuff, headings etc while preparing research/ study plan.
Other optional documents
Optional documents are not essential to attach with application but sometimes they are useful.
Acceptance letter
Acceptance/ invitation letter is helpful to get scholarship, you can get acceptance letter from Chinese university professor who will be agree to accept you as his research candidate in his group, you can get contact information from the web site of respective university, another way is search in Google scholar; write topic, university name, you will find research papers which has good impact factor in journals, you can get email address of professor from that research paper, and then contact him,. Write email to professor, tell him about your interest in his research filed, and request him to accept you as his research candidate, sometimes professors ask acceptance letter format. Passport
Passport is optional but I strongly recommend you to keep ready your passport before applying, if it is not available on the time of application, you can send them scan copy via email after applying.
English proficiency certificate
Sometimes universities ask for IELTS/TOEFL certificates, if you have these certificates you can provide but if you don’t have then you can give them English proficiency certificate mentioning that you have completed your previous degree in English language and you have enough command on English to complete your masters or PhD degree.
Other
Other documents could be research papers, awards (academic, extracurricular activities) research work experience certificate. But no need to attach other documents.
Other Additional Requirements
As above mentioned application material is according to CSC standards, but some universities can ask some extra things for application processing fees, online registration on university website, you can check additional requirements on respective website.
University Fees
As per CSC standard application processing is free, but some universities ask for fees which may be from 400 to 1000 yuan. Universities provide all details of their bank accounts, bank address for submission of fees. You can pay your fees via different banks, money ex changers, western union etc.
But it is expensive, easy way is to ask some friends in china to deposit your fess on your behalf.
Making final application set
Take print of online application form, paste photo on it, attach all above mentioned required documents. Make two sets of complete application. In first set attach original recommendation letters and in second set attach photocopies of recommendation letters.

Tip: Also write postal address in Chinese language which is mostly available on Chinese website.
Easy way to write Chinese address is; copy Chinese address and paste in Ms word, take print of that
address and paste on envelope.
Courier service
There are many courier services available in Pakistan for international service, Pakistan post is cheap but it will deliver your documents approximately after one month. You can choose private courier services that are expensive but your documents will reach within 4-7 days. I personally recommend DHL; its international service is good.
