Past simple tense - English Sindhi Grammar

Definition

A verb used to express an action in past time is called Past Simple Tense.

Note:-This tense shows occurrence of an action in past.

Example

1. She brought a gift for me.
2. He pleased to see me.

Helping Verbs

Note :- "Did" is the helping verb of Past tense which is used for negative sensentences, interrogative sentences, interrogative negative sentences and emphatic sentences.

Example

1. I did not hide anything.
2. Did You go for dinner?
3. They did hurt me.

Formation(Syntax)

Conjugation

Note:-"Did" is not used with Assertive sentences. Only second form of the verb is used in assertive sentences.

Example

1. I threw trash in dust bin.
2. We threw trash in dust bin.
3. You threw trash in dust bin.
4. He threw trash in dust bin.
5. She threw trash in dust bin.
6. It threw trash in dust bin.
7. They threw trash in dust bin.
8. Fiaz threw trash in dust bin.
9. Fiaz and Riaz threw trash in dust bin.

Emphatic Sentences

Note:- "Helping verb" is used for emphatic sentences.

Example

1. My mother did make me cake yesterday.
2. People did go on strike yesterday.
3. Your boss did fire you.

Sentence Transformations

Note:- A transformation of an Assertive sentence into Negative sentence, Interrogative sentence and Interrogative Negative sentence.

Note:- First form of the main verb is used with helping verb.

Assertive

1. He lost her perse.
2. Our teachers taught us with zest.
3. She got scared of every strange thing.

Negative

1. He did not lose her perse.
2. Our teachers did not teach us with zest.
3. She did not get scared of every strange thing.

Interrogative

1. Did He lose her perse?
2. Did Our teachers teach us with zest?
3. Did She get scared of every strange thing?

Interrogative Negative

1. Did He not lose her perse?
2. Did Our teachers not teach us with zest?
3. Did She not get scared of every strange thing?

Contractions

1. You didn't show me. (You did not show me.)
2. Didn't They sit with you? (Did They not sit with you?)
